Frequently Asked Questions [Top]

Why is my transit agency not supported?

Unfortunately, not every transit agency that utilizes NextBus technology agrees to release their data for the public XML API that this application utilizes. Some agencies do not release their data to the public API as they have their own private API established instead. Other agencies simply choose not to make the data available anywhere except the full NextBus web application. Note that future versions of the application will be able to support multiple data sources. At that time, requests for additions of agencies with their own private API will be taken for future versions to support.

Why can't this application show me stops nearby my location?

Using the public API, there is no easy way to ask for a list of nearby stops. This is currently a feature planned for a future version, however a custom algorithm will have to be created to do this within the program instead, and will take some time to create.

How do I add an agency/route/stop as a favorite?

Press and hold on any agency/route/stop to expose the context menu to the right that allows you to add (or, if on the favorites tab, remove) the item as a favorite.

Sometimes the map on the Next Bus Page gets messed up and if i press and drag the icons move but the map doesn't. What gives?

This is a known bug with the BlackBerry® maps app integration. I have done the best that I can to minimize it, however in rare cases it can still occur. If it happens, simply go back and open the stop again and the map will refresh. Note that simply hitting "Refresh Map" will not fix this bug.

Why does the app crash if I try and look at more than around 12 stops?

This too is a known bug with the BlackBerry® maps app integration. Unfortunately the map viewer has a memory leak that once loaded enough times will cause the operating system to kill the application to recover memory (testing has found that loading the next bus page with the map between 10-13 times causes the app to crash, depending on current memory usage). Unfortunately there is no fix at this time until BlackBerry® fixes the problem on their end.
